Landscape of Loch Beinn

Locations

Loch Beinn

We introduce ourselves as storytellers, using pictures instead of words to tell stories of the natural world. We’re often asked why we went to a certain location to photograph. Sometimes it’s because we want to tell a particular story about an animal or place. But at other times you go to a new location, to discover its particular secrets.

A cold and wet Scottish morning, cloud surrounded us, not one shaft of sunlight. Not particularly good for Landscape photography. It is not only the wildlife we photograph, but the landscapes they inhabit. We decided to drive through Glen Affric, searching for a suitable location to photograph, to our delight a small glimmer of light peeps through the clouds. Wait another 40 minutes and sunlight at last; how long we will have is question always at the back of our minds. Driving back down the glen the break in the day holds and good light has found us.

Loch Beinn is very picturesque. If you are lucky enough, and there is no breeze, and the water is calm, it becomes a huge reflector. The trees surrounding the loch catch the sunlight and their reflection can be seen in the water below.

You have to be quick as soon as the picture reveals itself, it gone. It’s a question of seeing the picture, quickly setting up the camera and keeping your fingers crossed that all the elements come together and you can capture that beautiful moment in time. We always say pictures are never taken they are created. It’s all about harnessing the elements of nature.
